About the Institute

Institute of Sociological Studies (ISS) is a part of the Faculty of Social Sciences (FSS) at Charles University. The mission of ISS integrates two primary functions:

to educate university graduated specialists in the fields of sociology, social policy and public policy;
to develop scientific activity in the fields mentioned above.

Research topics at ISS

Main research topics include:

advanced research methodology in social sciences (qualitative & quantitative);
Czech society in the European context;
research of forming and implementation of public policy and public administration in the Czech Republic;
analysis of development of social policy in the Czech Republic by an international comparison;
history of and current trends in sociological theory;
communication research, research of attitudes and public opinion;
social construction of identities (individual & collective);
solidarity and social justice research.
