Society, Communication and Media (SCM)

Society, Communication and Media (SCM)

The programme is designed to offer in-depth knowledge of the field of mass media and sociology. It is taught by members of the Institute of Sociological Studies (ISS) and the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism (ICSJ). The programme focuses on the study of society and its representation in the sphere of the media. It develops the methodological and analytical skills of students in a wide range of modern applications within sociology and media studies. On the one hand, the curriculum is oriented on sociological and media theory and on the other hand, more profound knowledge and skills in the field of empirical research methodology are provided. Both quantitative and qualitative analytical research methods are presented.

Application submission deadlines

Preliminary application deadline: 30. 06. 2024

Extended application deadline: 31. 08. 2024

Applications fully submitted by June 30, 2024 will already be evaluated during July.

Important note for visa-seeking students: Please read about the visa process carefully before applying. You are responsible for organizing your legal stay in Czechia and the visa application process can get quite lengthy. We cannot guarantee that you will be able to obtain the visa in time because the June and August deadlines are fairly close to the start of the academic year on September 30, 2024. The extended deadlines are therefore strongly recommended to students who already possess the legal right to long-term stay in Czechia.
